In a turn of events, our double-income-no-children lifestyle have changed over the course of a week. My dad caught a bird outside of his condo — turns out it was a canary who might have flown away from home. Of course no one wanted to take care of him, so in true eldest child fashion, I took him in.
No regrets though, he’s been a real treat having in our home — a natural alarm clock, a routine-cementer, and just watching him get comfortable is something I can do for hours. In a weird way, I’m reminded of my ideal day of spending my mornings doing things I like so that I’m motivated to get through work in the late afternoon. Having Kobe (yep) in our home reminds me to take some time in the morning to take care of myself first, before we get to working 🐤
I’ll mostly be linking care instructions and progress here.
Koby getting used to my parents’ home before we took him in
My nephew explaining to a distraught Koby that the egg is his distant cousin
We realized his previous bird cage was too small so we got him more space and toys
Looking a little better once we’ve transported him to our place
Teaching Kobe how to fly out of his cage
Soft launching Kobe and my bird parenthood to my friends by sending them videos privately
A mellowed out healthier Kobe so far. It’s only been a week so we’ll see
