Holding space to learn about TouchDesigner and some cool things I can do with its interactive outputs.

Operator Families

TOP — Texture operators (handles images and pixel data)

CHOP — Channel operators (manipulating channels, or sequences of numbers)

SOP — Surface operators (reading, creating, modifying 3d points, polygons, particles lines, surfaces, spheres, metaballs)

MAT — Materials (applying shaders to 3d components, like PBR, phong, wireframes)

DAT — Data operators (holds text like strings or tables)

COMP — Components (operators that can hold networks inside of them (I guess like comps in AE); can build UI components

Operator

Operators are the “Nodes” in TouchDesigner networks, and they output data to other operators.

TIL

  • Good way to debug: animated wires represent a connection that data is flowing through == cooking (data that’s processing in one of the operators)
  • Links: dotted lines, can help build with operators of different families
  • All operator families (except comps) have left/right inputs. Comps have top/bottom connectors (good for hierarchy
