Earlier this year, I built out a guestbook functionality in Webflow. Lately I’ve been obsessed with The small web and reconnecting with my nostalgia of building in HTML/CSS in spaces like AsianAvenue and MySpace. I wanted to reflect this in my portfolio without it being so absurdly web-brutal, so right now it lives as an Easter egg pop up.

A quick outline of how I did it, will flesh this out later. This doesn’t require any JavaScript, it’s strictly html/css, use of collections, and Zapier.

  • Create a CMS collection with all the fields you want
  • Create your guestbook form and submission with html then style in css
  • Connect to Zapier (details about free version); has to publish
  • Test it out

If there’s any way to rule out Zapier I’d love to hear from others who are familiar or know how to build this out in Webflow.
